Key performance priorities for machine slideways
Slideway lubrication is not only about viscosity. Friction behavior, lubricant retention, anti-wear performance, coolant separation, corrosion protection and fluid stability can all influence machine-tool performance. Shengxiang-specific values must be confirmed from the approved TDS/SDS.
Controlled Friction & Stick-Slip
Guideway oils are commonly selected for controlled friction between moving surfaces. Stable friction behavior can support smoother low-speed travel and help reduce stick-slip or chatter in precision motion.
Important for precision movementAdhesion & Oil Retention
A slideway lubricant should remain on guide surfaces long enough to maintain lubrication, especially where vertical guides, repeated travel or contact with metalworking fluids can promote oil loss.
Tackiness / retentionAnti-Wear & Load Support
Anti-wear performance helps protect sliding surfaces under load. The required protection level depends on machine design, surface materials, load, speed and lubrication method.
Load / surface protectionCoolant Separation / Demulsibility
In machine tools, guideway oil can contact water-miscible cutting fluids. Good separation behavior can help limit persistent oil-coolant emulsions and simplify removal of tramp oil from coolant systems.
Important around cutting fluidsRust & Corrosion Protection
Machine-tool guideways may be exposed to humidity, coolant splash and changing operating conditions. Corrosion protection helps protect ferrous surfaces and precision components during service.
Surface preservationOxidation & Fluid Stability
Oil stability matters where lubricant remains in reservoirs, centralized systems or warm operating environments. Oxidation resistance can help control viscosity change, deposits and oil degradation over time.
Long-term oil conditionFour L-NG Guide Rail Oil models
Model names and package information follow the supplied list. The exact viscosity grade designation and physical-property values should be confirmed from the official Shengxiang technical data sheet.
Lowest numbered model in the supplied L-NG range. Confirm the OEM-required viscosity and the official TDS before selection.
Second model in the supplied portfolio. Use the machine specification and approved product data as the selection basis.
Third listed model. Check guideway type, load, speed, lubrication system and required viscosity before use.
Highest numbered model in the supplied range. Do not select only by model number; confirm the equipment requirement and TDS.
What engineers normally evaluate before choosing a guideway oil grade
The notes below are general engineering tendencies, not Shengxiang model-specific claims. Always prioritize the equipment maker's lubricant specification.
Higher sliding speed can favor a lower-viscosity requirement in some systems, while slow movement may require a different friction and film-strength balance.
General tendency only — verify OEM/TDS.Higher guideway loading can increase the importance of oil-film strength, anti-wear performance and adequate viscosity.
Consider load, contact area and travel pattern.Vertical or inclined guideways may place greater emphasis on lubricant adhesion and resistance to drain-off.
Adhesion can be especially relevant on vertical ways.Where guideway oil contacts water-miscible cutting fluid, coolant separation and wash-off resistance can become key selection factors.

Parameters buyers and engineers should verify in the TDS
No numerical values are invented here. Replace “Confirm TDS” only when the official Shengxiang technical data for each model is available.

| Density | Useful for product identification, inventory calculations and fluid-system engineering. | Confirm TDS |
| Flash Point | An important handling and high-temperature safety-related property. | Confirm TDS |
| Pour Point | Provides a low-temperature flow reference; actual machine start-up requirements may be more restrictive. | Confirm TDS |
| Friction / Stick-Slip Performance | Relevant to smooth low-speed slideway movement, positioning quality and chatter control. | Confirm Test / TDS |

Why guideway oil interacts with more than the sliding surface
Guideway + Cutting Fluid Interaction
Machine tools often use both guideway lubricant and water-miscible cutting fluid. If the two fluids mix excessively, machine lubrication and coolant-management performance can both be affected.
Centralized Lubrication System Considerations
Where oil is delivered through pumps, metering units and narrow lines, lubricant flow behavior and system cleanliness become especially important.

Four practices that protect guideway lubrication performance
Choose in four checks
Check Machine Requirement
Confirm the guideway lubricant specification required by the machine builder.
Verify the L-NG Grade
Select L-NG32#, L-NG68#, L-NG100# or L-NG150# only after checking the approved TDS and machine requirement.
Check Coolant Compatibility
For machine tools using water-miscible coolant, verify separation and compatibility with the actual metalworking fluid.
Select Package & Quantity
Choose 16L or 200L based on maintenance volume, storage, consumption rate and purchasing requirements.
Technical publishing note: do not publish numerical viscosity, flash point, pour point, density, friction-test results, standards, OEM approvals or service intervals for Shengxiang L-NG models until those values are taken from the approved product TDS/SDS.
Frequently asked engineering questions
Is a higher L-NG number always better?
No. Guideway lubricant selection should follow the machine manufacturer's viscosity and lubricant specification. A higher model number should not be treated as automatically better.
Why is stick-slip important on machine slides?
Unstable friction at very low sliding speed can produce jerky motion or chatter. Controlled friction behavior is therefore important where smooth travel and positioning accuracy are required.
Why does coolant separation matter?
Guideway oil can migrate into water-miscible cutting fluid. Strong separation behavior helps reduce persistent emulsification and can make tramp-oil removal easier.
Can guideway oil be mixed with another oil?
Do not assume compatibility. Different additive systems and viscosity grades may behave differently. Confirm compatibility with the lubricant supplier or approved technical documentation before mixing.
What information should a buyer provide for product selection?
Provide the machine make/model, OEM lubricant requirement, current lubricant, guideway orientation, operating temperature, coolant type, lubrication-system type, package size and expected consumption.
Need help selecting the correct Guide Rail Oil?
Send the machine model, required lubricant specification, current oil, coolant type, preferred L-NG model, package size, quantity and destination.
